Glazed Over

As promised, here are a few pictures of my attempt to use DiamondGlaze to seal some old keys. I have a somewhat cluttered work area.. I may need to straighten that up ;)

I actually sealed 4 different keys.

I used a paint brush to apply the DiamondGlaze on the key.  This was the most effective way to do it.  Using the brush to apply it, kept me from having a lot of excess glaze on the key. 

To dry the keys, I simply slipped them onto a paintbrush and set that over a small reusable plastic container.  This way any drips are contained.  Since I chose to dry them while they are hanging, I had to go back 2-3 times to make sure that there wasn't any excess built up near the bottom of the keys.  On the plus side, I was able to glaze both sides of the key at once.  If there was any excess then I simply smoothed it out with the paintbrush.

The glaze isn't fully dried yet, but wanted to give you a little peak at what the glaze does to the key.  Since I chose to use the DiamondGlaze, the key has a somewhat glossy shine, but allowed the true color of the patina to remain in tact.

Rain Rain Go Away

It is still raining here in Georgia.  Instead of trying to spray laquer the pieces, which requires the wonderful outdoors, I am going to use DiamondGlaze.  I have never tried this before, so we will be learning together. 

I will take photos to document all my trials and errors.  We can decide together which way works better to give the best finish to the keys.

Oh my! Really?!

I have been anxious to get started laying out my design and getting my components ready.  It has been raining.  If not rainy then it has been hot, muggy, and humid.  These are not great conditions when trying to seal pieces.  The pieces will end up tacky and it takes forever for them to set up. 

I hope to be able to show you how I am sealing the pieces tomorrow.  I will be using a spray laquer on some and some diamond glaze on others just to be able to see what the difference is when the pieces are dried.

Treasure in Unexpected Places

Finally, my block is gone.  I am ready to get busy and start creating some new pieces from the fantastic items that I picked up from the antique shops and from B'sue Boutiques.  I would like to share each part of the process with you, so that you can see the design take shape to the final product.
